About me - Royce Radcliffe

About me

I sort of like to maintain my secrecy... Everyone is revealing their personal details and here I am with nothing. I like it like that.

I might add a true biography at some point in the next month or so. Suffice to say my main goal in life is to be a filmmaker. I feel that I am a writer already and will be one for the rest of my life. I was writing for myself long before I came here and most of my opinion articles on this site were done out of love alone.

If you really want to see the articles I care about go to the end of these pages. Check out my pieces about Guantanamo, the Drug War, Bush, Iraq... those things I cared about the most. Any essay related to any aspect of film means something to me. I also wrote about half the stories here before coming to the site and the other half I enjoyed creating for the contests, so you might want to check those out as well.

The funny thing is that many of my favorite pieces have some pretty mediocre ratings. People who really take the rating system seriously need to get over it. It is mainly luck and controversial opinions can be punished even if well crafted. Part of me longs for the day when I can republish the pieces I care most about without a silly number attached.

Until then I love this site for giving me the exposure and chance to promote my views on current events. By the time I republish most of these pieces they will be time capsules. And I actually love the rating system because it keeps the wheels in motion on this great writing site. I just think people should take them with about a pound of salt.

In terms of the articles I would not have written were it not for this site, my article about my experience with abortion stands out the most to me. It was painful and I would not have written it were it not for the financial motivation. I am glad I overcame that hurdle because a paragraph in it became about release instead.

I hate promoting myself. I think that is effort better served creating something new. I write poetry, journal entries, short stories, essays and screenplays. I have a lifetime of work done already. Most of my best pieces are not even on this site, though the aforementioned essays are among them. I am very prolific and do not plan on slowing down anytime soon.

I used to party a lot but now see my work as the party. I think imagination enriched everything I did before and it feels great to let go of the real world to some extent and dive entirely into my favorite part of consciousness. I sometimes turn to practical concerns and write essays on them, but that is to placate my conscience so that I can return to creation unencumbered by guilt.

I plan on becoming very rich and giving most of it away. For awhile I will have to hold onto the money because films are very expensive, but I should be able to make a profit on most of them and thus will have more and more to give back to the world. Knowing I gave back more than I took is what will enable me to die with no regrets, more so than even my creations.

I have trouble respecting billionaires because part of me sees them as hording resources better spent elsewhere due to being overpaid. I am working for pennies right now and am just as good as I will be when I am making millions. People sometimes respect others in accordance to how much money they have made instead of the quality of their work.... but I suppose that is their problem.

My goal is to make some short films this summer and an indie feature before my next birthday (March 20th). From there I plan on making some more independent low-budget films for awhile before raising enough funds to move onto bigger productions. I do not even want to work with studios. They would have to give me complete control over every facet of the production/marketing and most are loathe to do that. Even Spielberg still has to ask permission because that is the system he chooses to be in. Not for me.

If you would like to gage whether or not I have any talent with regard to visual storytelling please check out the links below. One of them will work. They are both to the same movie but sometimes people have trouble with the links so I included both to be safe.

I had one hundred percent control of the camera and editing and thus truly view this as my first film, poor CGI or not. I cannot wait to add a voice over and promote it but...

There is a sound issue during the second half of this seven minute movie so be aware of that. I am upgrading my computer to prevent this exporting issue from occurring in the future and will edit this with the new link the moment I am able to. I actually have two other pieces I like just as much as this one if not more but am holding them back until I get a better computer. Once that happens I will post those as well.

There is a tendency in this world to place people in boxes. People have trouble believing that someone who is good at writing would be good at filmmaking or much of anything else. It is like we are only allowed one or two skills in the eyes of the public. I think I am equally good at all these different things I do and plan on breaking that perception as much as possible. If not, well... as long as I believe it, that is all that really ever mattered right?

I love this site and will promote it once I make it. It has given me thousands so far in a time when that amount of money can change everything. It is going to help me buy that computer and perfect the piece listed above, which I plan to use with the others as a calling card of sorts. I am extremely ambitious and all of this is only the beginning for me. I think I can do anything if I put my mind to it. Remember when you told that to children? When your parents told it to you?

I believed it. I still do.

(I can be reached via email at burningplanet27@live.com. I wish all of you luck. There is good money to be made here and enough to go around!)

For the purposes of this debate I am going to focus primarily on First World countries. There are many countries in the world where there is in fact no need to debate this point at all, for they are blatant in their prejudice against women. The perception by many is that there is a similar level of prejudice in advanced countries, only more hidden, subtle. I strongly disagree.I was shocked to see that twice as many people on this site thought men were favored in society. I think in many ways you could argue the opposite. But the truth probably lies between the two vantage points. In my opin...
