About me - Dixie Bibeau

About me

I teach writing at the University of Central Florida and off campus can usually be found chained to my notebook. I have two children, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a dog and a cat. In that order. I wish I still had my old 1954 Buick Special.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

largely unused. Prince Charming is roaming in the woods, lost on his horse. Now, a horse is a small area in comparison to the whole huge world, but the prince is a little directionally challenged. I'm patient.

I know too much about ...

Oh, no, you're not getting me on this one. I'd be considered an "expert" and the world would beat a path to my door. I'm comfortable in my hut, thank you, contemplating my navel...

My parents always told me ...

conflicting directives, so I just paid attention to my father and did as I pleased.

My childhood ambition ...

was to grow up. That's still my ambition.

My favorite memory ...

is flying at night into Bogota, Colombia, and looking out the window into deep velvet blackness to see below a silver, winding, ribbon--moonlight on the Magdalena River.

Why I write ...

I write because I can.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I am listening to the hum of the dishwasher, which I run once a week on Sunday morning. I think it's humming "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

My first job ...

was waiting tables in summer for extra money when I went off to University in the Fall. It was fun.

My best moment ...

was looking at each of my two newborn children. They were beautiful, they were perfect, they were MINE. Now, they can read this and I can say, "They're embarrassed."

My inspiration ...

is my dog, who reminds me daily that he has a food dish that needs to be kept full.

But with the "dot in the middle" school increasingly becoming the haven of aspiring second-career vocational mavens of chiarascuro and impasto, Art seems right at home. On a ...
