I am a retired IT professional who reads a lot and listens to the radio nearly all the time. I play chess (badly) in my local league when my club is desperate to field a full team.

I run chess problem solving competitions and write a monthly column in the British periodical 'Chess'.

In my really spare moments I have been known to compose and publish chess problems, most of which are very unorthodox.

Stephen Thorne is probably one of Great Britain's hardest working actors, though it is likely that the majority of people have no idea what he looks like.
