THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE. Somewhere in the '70's, not in a band and skint, penniless, I used to buy the local paper every night and look under 'Bands, Musicians and Artistes, not much had been in recently and I was getting desperate. I Scanned down the columns and finding nothing except 'Magicians assistant required, good p...

Weird Happenings in Tokyo My then partner Michelle woke me up and shouting and waving a piece of paper around, "Wake up and clock this, we've won two tickets to Tokyo", yeh sure,I replied, when I finally came round from my hangover and had a look, what came in to focus was a letter, complete with two tickets made out in our ...

Creative Writing > Memoirs Memoirs: Life

It was the 27th of July 1969, The funeral was much the same as any other really, The four pall-bearers were all immaculately dressed from head to foot in black,They slowly strode in perfect time to "The Thresh-hold Of A Dream" by The Moody Blues, The small but respectful congregation lined either side of the path leading to ...

Religion & Spirituality > Atheism & Agnosticism Reasons not to believe in God

I Can Give A Few I was born in 1951 in Manchester UK as a Christian, (Church Of England), My first real encounters were in my R.E. class (Then Religious Education), This class was always taken by a hellfire breathing dragon called Mrs Dean! (no joke). As to to educating me about religion this old bat had the opposite effect ...

It had been a long, long day, ever since my wife and I parted company two years ago I always had my five year old daughter Jay to stay with me every weekend, It was a kind of amicable arrangement where I got to see my daughter and my ex got a few free days each week, I loved these weekends just me a...

"American Pie" was an all time classic which was written by Don McClean in 1972, In that song he sang the words "The Day The Music Died", Even though I was a rock fan there was something in that statement that was a little bit haunting, Was it because it was something we all thought would never happen? As I am a Brit you may wonder what I am doing writing an article about US gun laws, the answer is this: Not only do I think Americans should retain the right to bear arms I think we should also have the right to bear arms here in the UK, like it or not our streets over here are no longer the safe havens they used to be, gone...

Politics, News & Issues > Politics in the UK Predicting whether Labour will win the next election

Yes of course they will. Trouble is it will be when hell freezes over. For starters, there is no Labour Party anymore. Tony Benn and his ilk will tell you that Gordon Brown is bound to go down in history as the worst PM the UK has ever had and that his "Bull In A China Shop" policies, will come home to roost all to soon. He ...

Entertainment > Music Business Music tips for up and coming bands

Hi All, This is a small piece of advice which was given to me 20 years ago, and I still use it now every time I go on stage or do recording a session. I was asked to put some guitars on a couple of tracks by a (quite famous at that time) Manchester band ,so it was important for me to get this right, I was given rough demo's ...

Creative Writing > Memoirs Memoirs: What to say to the world in your 15 minutes of fame

The Enemy Within? Someone kick me if I am wrong here, but are we being wiped out by the very democracy we all fight so hard to defend? My own father was a paratrooper during World War II - fought all over the world for it, my Mother worked in the ammunitions factory in Manchester and her brother Bill died in France for it. M...
