Let's be plain here. The press absolutely attempts to, at best, create some sort of story arc they can run with, and at worst, outright attempt to unduly influence the outcome by way of their coverage. This much is obvious. Just look at the coverage of the primaries and caucuses so far. A guy like Giuliani, who thus far has done nothing of consequence in the voting, gets tons of coverage, while someone like Ron Paul, who really hasn't done considerably worse than Giuliani, gets almost no coverage on the major news networks.
