My name is Nicola Walton and I live in Norwich in Norfolk in the UK. My husband Rob and I have been married for 27 years and we have one daughter Lynsey who is 24. She has recently got engaged to her partner Andrew. I was born in Birmingham in the West Midlands and I grew up there. My Father was a Police Inspector so we did not see much of him. I have a younger brother who is a Firefighter in Birmingham and lives at home with my Mum who is is her eighties. I did my Nurses training in the 70's at our local hospital at Sutton Coldfield, and worked in all types of situations. As an Enrolled nurse we had practical training mainly at the bedside. Dealing hands on with the patients. I did not have any GCSE's when I left school so I could not do SRN training. However in 1999 I graduated from Norwich City College as a Registered General Nurse having done a Nurse Conversion course. I was an SRN at last!. I worked in an EMI unit in a private nursing home with the elderly as Deputy Manager. Until in April 2006 I had to give up work to look after my husband who had been ill. I have recently attained City & Guilds qualifications in English Language so I have got my GCSE's at last. I have also completed a distance learning course in proofreading/copyediting course which I enjoyed. I am now awaiting a Writing course which I am really looking forward to doing. I am a novice writer having only written a few pieces for my course work for the City & Guilds. Its knowing what to write about that the problem. If someone says write about so and so I would be ok. I have a lot of ideas buzzing around in my head. I also have a lot of life experiences which I could call on in the right setting. If anyone can give me some advice on how to get started I would welcome it and I look forward to making friends on the site.
