I joined Helium in late March 2008. I'm sub channel steward for Business/Non Profits. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, suggestions or comments about this sub channel and your experiences with Helium.
Writing has always been an important part of my life. In my early teens I was producing newspapers for several neighborhoods. In high school I wrote for the local and school papers.
My work experience included secretary in a municipal utility (my first retirement), chef-waitress-counterperson in a small whole foods cafe, library clerk, writing articles and selling ads for various newspapers, and as a WIC breastfeeding consultant. During that time I gave birth to a son (1972) and a daughter (1984). I worked at a few short-term jobs following her birth, but mostly stayed at home to "unschool" her.
I've volunteered since high school in various non-profit organizations. In 2001 I was hired to set up a volunteer program for a library and retired (my second retirement) from the volunteer coordinator position in 2007, when I decided it was time to go back to volunteering, this time as a board member of a non-profit.
Since mid-2004 I've written a monthly self-help column for Gannett's Elmira Star Gazette Health & Fitness Magazine.
Helium is like a dream come true. Thousands of titles waiting for my input. After writing, my favorite activity is proofreading and editing, so I also love the opportunity to rate articles.

Quick and easy meatloaf comes from an era of simpler times. In the 1950s and 1960s, meatloaf and homemade macaroni and cheese were just as common as the female/male divisions of labor. Boys took out the trash and burned the papers. Girls set the table and washed the dishes.
Meantime, Dad was out on the job, and Mom produced casserole after casserole for weeknight dinners, while saving beef roasts and whole roasted chickens for Sunday dinner. In between, Saturdays were good for any remaining leftovers.
