What makes the GIRAFFE (Giraffa camelopardalis) so special? Aside from being tall and thin, blonde, and having gorgeous 3-inch long eyelashes, the giraffe is the tallest living land mammal. Male giraffes (called bulls) can be up to 18 feet tall. Females (called cows) are slightly shorter. At birth, a giraffe calf is about 6 feet tall. Giraffes live between 20 - 25 years, slightly longer in captivity.
