What’s not allowed on Helium

  • Plagiarism: Plagiarism is Helium’s most frowned-upon web felony. Submitting content to the Helium site that you didn’t create or that you don’t have permission to publish is a violation of the Helium User Agreement. Acts of plagiarism may result in deletion of your articles and termination of your account.
  • Promotion: Including your name or website or your products in an article you write is not allowed. Why? The simple answer is this: Anonymity is critical to the success of the rating process. However, we encourage you to write in a way that establishes you as an expert. We also support your using your “About Me” page to promote yourself, your business, your website, your books and your resume as a writer!
  • Limited content: Helium articles must be a minimum of 2,400 characters or roughly 400 words — you cannot publish an article of less than 2,400 characters (except for poetry, songs and recipes). Additionally, our Writing Standards also encourage articles of at least 400 words. Save your one-liners for awkward silences.
  • Adult and profane language We are a family-friendly site with a minimum age of 13. This should be adequate guidance. If you need additional direction here, you may contact help@helium.com.
  • Off topic and spamming: Submitting articles that do not address the title or submitting the same article on more than one title is not permitted.
  • All caps: Submitting articles with all capital letters is not permitted. PLEASE STOP SCREAMING! You sound much more professional at this level.
TIP: Read the Helium User Agreement in its entirety. Please also read our Writing Standards in this User Guide.
