Account Settings page

“Account Settings” is where to change your name, email address, as well as pen name, PayPal account information, and where to sign up for Helium newsletters.

There are five tabs on the box displayed on this page:

Account Settings

Name/Email: Here you can add your address and other contact information, which we’ll need for payment. Note: By clicking the “Show Location Info” checkbox, your city, state and country will be displayed on your “About Me” page. If you do not want this information displayed, leave this checkbox blank. If you want to change your email, just type in your new email address. You’ll also need to update your other personal information when you do this. After you hit the “Submit” button, you’ll receive a confirmation email to that address to confirm.

Also on this page you can sign up for Helium newsletters or unsubscribe. Click on the “Email Newsletter Preferences” link, and follow directions. We’re adding new newsletters all the time, so check back often.

What to do if you need to change your email address, but can’t access your email account or you’ve made a typo when entering the change on Helium

We use the email address you have registered with Helium to verify your account. However, we know that sometimes bad things can happen to your email – you might lose access to your email account, or you might try to change your email address and make a typo when entering it into our system. If either of these things has happened, never fear – we can help, but we need the following information from you:

1. Your username (login name) for your account if you remember it.

2. The answer to your security question. If you’re not sure what your question is, you can click on the ‘forgot username or password’ link on the login page. The second step of this process will reveal your security question.

3. Send this information to help@helium.com from the email address to which you want your account registered and provide the email address to which the account is registered currently, if you know it.

We will manually update your account with the email address from which you are sending the request and send you an activation link to the address to which you changed the account registration.

Pen name: Your pen name is your article byline, so pick a name that you like! Pen names are displayed at the top and bottom of every article you write. If your username is showing up, change it to a pen name. Just fill in the name you want, and hit “Submit.” Note: You are permitted to change your pen name only once after creating your account. If you want to change it again, you must send in a request to the Helium Help Desk.

NOTE: Many Marketplace publishers are unwilling to use articles submitted under a silly or cute pen name. It is better to choose either your own name or a real-sounding name as your pen name.

Privacy Settings: Here you can manage whether other Helium members can contact you through “Contact this writer.” (Only Helium members can use this function.) The default is set to allow other members to contact you. If you click on “Click here to block all members from contacting me,” you turn this function off. If you change your mind, click on “Click here to allow all members to contact me,” and emailing will be turned back on.

If you receive an email from a member you do not want to hear from again, you can block that user from a link in the initial email.

NOTE: If you receive an email from another member via Helium’s “Contact this writer” tool, neither of you has access to the other’s email address. However, if you reply to an email, you will both know each other’s email address.

My favorite charity: The “Charity” tab allows you to choose a favorite charitable organization to receive your articles’ earnings. This will be the default option on anymore articles you write.

Payment Options: Currently, Helium uses PayPal for payments. There are two ways to set up a PayPal account at Helium. You can set up your own account or have help from Helium.

Do-it-yourself:
  • Go to the PayPal website and create an account for yourself there.
  • Add your PayPal account information in the text fields on Helium.

Have Helium help:

  • Enter a username and the email address you want associated with your new PayPal account. When you request your first payment from Helium, PayPal will invite you to open an account.
