Over the years instant messaging has brought on it's own special lingo, it is basicly a short hand way of writing the easy thing's, like the other posts on here I too believe that it will cause problems for future kids because they will not know any better.
If you are unfamiliar with the short hand language that has became instant messaging here is a explanation of some of the terms.
TTYL simply means Talk To You Later
I C means I See
y means Why
lol means Laugh Out Loud
brb means Be Right Back
btw means By The Way
bbiab means Be Back In A Bit
bbl means Be Back Later
thx means Thanks
sup means What's Up
l8r means Later
ttfn means Ta Ta For Now
gmta means Great Minds Think Alike
lmao means Laugh My A* Off
imho means In My Humble Opinion
np means No Problem
gtg means Got To Go
As you can see if a young person were to learn this type of lingo before they knew the proper grammer and spelling then it may very well cause an upset later on in life. There are also a few other things that people using intant messengers do but I will not get into it all that much, you will simply be able to know what they mean by looking at them.
