What to do if your computer is running slow

by TruXter

There are a few things to look at when your computer is running slow. some can be hardware and some can be software, and some can be the person who is sitting at your desk right now. Let's go ahead and check a few things. I find it easier to start with the cheapest and most simple checks, so we are not doing a bunch of useless work and not paying bundles for something that could have really been inexpensive.
Go to pc pitstop and create a free account and do a full benchmark for later references.

Let's start with checking your "add and remove" in your control panel. When you are looking in here just check how much stuff you have installed and check for anything that looks like something you did not install, or stuff that you may have installed but forgotten about because you do not use any longer. If you really have no idea what the program is, let's leave it be for now or you can just type the name of the file/program in google and see what you get in topics related to it and see if it either scares you or reminds you.

Go to pc pitstop and benchmark again and compare to last results.

Install adaware, spybot search and destroy,a-squared free . Run a scan with each one by it's self so you avoid issues. You want to remove any malware or anything that shows up that looks spooky or has a high risk level. If you do not know what you are doing, google search each item and read up. I pretty much remove it all and cross my fingers that the item is not attached to something important..

Go to pc pitstop and benchmark again and compare to last results.

Next one, is you really have to know all of your passwords and stuff. Dump your temporary internet files and cache and history by going to control panel and internet options you will find what you need right there.

Go to pc pitstop and benchmark again and compare to last results.

This item is controversial, it really bothers the tech wise community. But if you read what I say you will see I am not going to do what is typical. Click start button, find the run shortcut and type in "msconfig" . click on the "start up tab" and look at the bunch of stuff that loads when you start your computer. for each item that you can not identify do a google search on it and see what it is. If you find things that you really do not need to run when you boot up, such as your instant messenger, go to that instant messenger and find the options and search for "start up on boot" and disable it there. If you can not find
