Mayonnaise is an inexpensive way to deep condition your scalp which will lead to healthy hair. Why it works? I am not certain but it does work. When I was a little girl, my mother would condition our hair by massaging a beaten egg into our scalp. We would wrap it and let it remain in our hair for about 15 minutes or longer - then she would rinse it out and shampoo it. We had the healthiest hair and it grew beautifully. As I grew older and was shampooing my own hair, I began to use the popular over-the-counter products, my hair started to loose some of its brilliancy and so began the good hair, bad hair battle.
Ingredients are listed on products according to the highest quantity of an ingredient to the least ingredient used in the product. Soybean oil is usually the main ingredient listed in mayonnaise. The second ingredient will be water and then eggs. All of these ingredients provide a good source of moisture for the hair. Using mayonnaise is good for the hair. It contains Vitamin E and K which are both fat-soluble. Eggs also contain cholesterol which is known to be another soluble which can strengthen the follicles of the hair shaft. When you are experiencing a dry scalp, split ends and dry thinning hair, mayonnaise is an effective deep conditioner.
To use mayonnaise for the hair you will need a "real" mayonnaise, a wrap or plastic cap and about 15 minutes to allow the mayonnaise to set. The heat from your scalp will cause the mayonnaise to become warm and it will appear oily. After the deep conditioning time is up, apply your shampoo as you normally do and follow your shampooing routine. Your hair will be manageable and soft.
After using this hair technique for awhile, I think you will agree with me that old remedies are sometimes the best.
