Wicker Furniture: Changing old into new and useful

Restoring and altering wicker furniture is a great opportunity to get creative and add to your existing home decor. When choosing wicker furniture, keep your eye out for items with a unique shape and in good condition. Once you get them home, the fun part begins. Clean up your item with a little soap and water on a damp rag. Dish soap works the best because it easily rids the wicker of the greasy build up. I then leave the item to dry in the sun. Afterwards, I use items such as rattan to hide any areas that have been damaged. Give the item a good shot of spray paint or just a nice coat of lacquer. If you are going to keep the item outdoor, be sure to use the appropriate type of paint or lacquer. Construct cushions, and lace, weave in strings of beads, or a wide variety of other items to add interest and suit your needs. The possibilities are endless. Have fun!
