Certainly there are faith based exceptions; that is individual choice. Regardless of how society feels, if a person chooses to not cohabitate before marriage because he or she feels it is not right, then the issue is resolved for that person. To do otherwise will cause unnecessary conflict with one's conscience.
Also, circumstance should play into the decision. One should consider his or her reasons for living together before getting married. Too often, I believe, living together to 'test the waters' creates false commitment in that the marriage is then expected. If it truly is an experiment to determine compatibility, failure is what is being evaluated. That, to me, seems to lack faith, but, to each, his or her own opinion is more important than mine.
The primary reason couples should feel at liberty to live together before marriage is economics. Presuming the couple that is considering cohabitating is already having sex, living together will help pay for the beautiful white dress and the gala event proclaiming to the world that Caesar and the church now license the fornication that today both regard as sin.
If a couple were truly waiting for Caesar's license and ceremonial proclamation of sanctity before proceeding with life, fairly cheap flights to Las Vegas are available. You may even have Elvis as your best man, if you want to make your day for sanctified fornication thenceforth really special!
