10 Tips To Blogs That Get Read
Blogging has increased the potential for online income and diversified entertainment and information but there is also a high rate of blogs that never develop a readership. These ten tips will show you how to get your blog noticed:
1. Fine Tune Your Titles
The first thing your potential readers see is your title. If you fail to capture your readers' interest you'll fail to get read. Your title should give enough information that readers know what to expect from the post while remaining as short as possible.
2. Not Too Short, Not Too Long
Successful bloggers discovered that web-based readers have short attention spans. Entries should be kept between 300 and 600 words. This is about the length of a page. Entries of this size are long enough to include real substance but short enough to read quickly.
3. Format & Presentation
Readers like things simple. The best way to make it easy and enjoyable for your reader is to use common language, correct spelling and straight-forward grammar. It's important to keep paragraphs compact and to the point. A great way to break up longer entries is with lists or headers. Use the space around the words to give readers a chance to rest their eyes.
4. Narrow & Broaden Your Focus
You know many topics that would all interest readers but those who want to know how to train a dog might not be interested in mastering a concerto. It's important to narrow your focus by selecting your topic but don't be afraid to broaden your focus by creating multiple blogs.
5. A Regular Posting Routine
Plan how frequently you will update your blog. Readers like to know when they can expect your next entry and will swiftly wander away if they have loaded your page and found nothing new. Posting daily is not a requirement but posting regularly is.
6. Be Your Unique Self
Develop your own unique style and remain true to yourself. Readers will quickly lose interest in a fake, a try hard, or a mimic. Just be you!
7. Write For Your Readers
It is important to write about what you know and love but it is also vital to remember that you write for your readers. You may find thousands of intricate details fascinating and could ramble over ancient historical texts for days at a time but your readers are usually much more interested in snappier, to the point topics that capture information in a new and vibrant way.
8. Generate Relationships
Blogs invite readers to interact. To encourage readers to return, generate a relationship. If a reader leaves a comment respond to it. Be open, warm and enthusiastic. Welcome discussion and get to know your readers.
9. Hard Work & Time
Writing a blog is not a get rich quick scheme. It takes time and hard work to create interesting posts and develop extensive archives that will draw in readers. It takes time to generate traffic and to establish yourself as a resource. A successful blog requires perseverance, dedication and commitment.
10. Take Chances & Break Rules
We now have 9 'rules' but the tenth and final rule is: never be afraid to try something new or do something different. Innovation comes from doing what that has never been done. By taking chances and breaking rules you may just create the next great thing.
