Often the intentions of the overdose are to kill ones self. This makes treatment difficult, because if the person is serious, can refuse treatment, in which case all you can do is wait for them to become unconscious, to treat with assumed consent. If the person has not taken enough to pass out, and is flat out refusing to be seen, keep them talking preferably not about what made them depressed enough to want to die, leave that discussion to the professionals. The suicidal mind and thought process is complex, and the victims reasons will undoubtedly anger or perplex you. Talk about good times you have had together, or happy topics. Offer them water, as much as they will drink. If you can't get a person to willingly go get a stomach pumped, at least water will help push the toxins out, and they are none the wiser. Should the person go unconscious, make certain they are breathing, and set their head to maintain an open airway and call 911, for advanced treatment at a hospital.
