Spring cleaning for writers: Organize your office

Messy office equals messy mind?

Maybe... but my writing place is forever cluttered with paper, notes, ideas, work in progress, and so on, and I write quite happily.

The degree to which you need to organise your office space will depend on how you work. If you're a neat freak, no doubt you'll already have everything neatly organised and ready to hand.

The main aspect of your office space that should be organised is anything that is ongoing. How many projects have you been working on that still haven't reached fruition? Don't dispose of them - just file them away where you can still reach them. If they are sitting on your desk all the time and you have no intention of doing them in the near future, they will be draining your creative energy without you even realising it.

You can pick them up at any point in the future, but for now it will clear the decks and enable you to continue with current projects. You may well find that without these energy draining items on your desk, you find the time and ability to write even more than you have been doing.
