There are several scientific ways to help avoid or diffuse worry. However, for an easy, effective and quick way to get rid of worry and even phobias, I would recommend Dr. Roger Callahan's fantastic Thought Field Therapy. It works like magic - totally getting rid of thoughts of worry.
This easy exercise can be repeated as many times as desired and has been proven to work - I can vouch for that!
It works by tapping acupuncture points on the body while you think about what is worrying you. It seems strange at first, but it most definitely works.
Let's have a go:
1) Think about what is worrying you and give it a rating out of ten - 1 meaning there is no worry at all, and 10 meaning the worst kind of fear/worry.
2) Now, keeping that idea of fear/worry in your mind, use two fingers on one hand and tap just above your eyebrow. Do this ten times.
3) Now tap under the same eye. Do this ten times.
4) Now find the raised section of your collarbone just to one side of your neck. Tap here ten times.
5) Now tap under your armpit ten times.
6) Now tap the back of your free hand ten times.
7) Remember to continue thinking about what is worrying you. Now close your eyes and open them. Look down to your right, then to the center, then to the left.
8) Rotate your eyes in a 360 degree circle clockwise. Then repeat this same action with an anti-clockwise motion.
9) Now this sounds silly but hum a tune - it can be any tune, whatever comes into your mind.
10) Now count to ten, and hum the tune again.
11) Finally repeat the tapping sequence - numbers 2 to 6.
12) Now rate your fear/worry again. Has it decreased? If it hasn't, or it hasn't decreased enough, continue this process several times until your worry is at 0 or 1.
