How to celebrate Christmas the Spanish way

Celebrating Nochevieja (New Year's Eve) in Spain.

We all know every country, and even every region, city or village has its own customs. Here in Spain, to celebrate New Year, every 31st December, we have dinner with our family and after an extraordinary parade of delicious plates and a sweet ending with "turrn" (made of almonds and honey, or with other different ingredients) and chocolates we are prepared to receive the new year with twelve grapes!

Personally, I spend some time pealing them. Well, I think I'm not the only one doing this. After having spent all together some ten minutes in front of the television, waiting for the famous clock located in Madrid to strike twelve, when the first "Ding, Dong" sounds, we have to eat one grape, and then another one, and another one, twelve grapes! So, that's why I peal mine! To be fast and take all the grapes before the old years dies. The reason for this custom is just good luck, but this is something everybody in Spain does every year.

After that, cava, congratulations and wishes of good luck for all those we love. And don't forget to send some MSM's!

Finally, at 01:00am or so, people go with their friends to a party, or simply to some pubs. Dance, sing, drink! And everything finishes with a cup of chocolate and churros, at around 7 or 8 in the morning.
