Andover, MA – Oct. 17, 2007 — Helium (www.Helium.com), a directory of real-world knowledge powered by people like you, kicks off the College Writing Contest, a seven-week online writing competition, giving college students across the nation the chance to compete for more than $4,000 in total cash prizes plus the recognition of millions.

The Helium College Writing Contest promotes citizen journalism and provides a real-life online competitive writing experience. The competition invites college students to become members of Helium and write to any of the 100 new article topics each week. Members of the Helium community are also the competition judges: They pick the winners each week by comparing the submitted articles side by side. This unique judging capability is fun and addictive and ensures that each article is judged fairly by the audience – there is no rigging, gaming or popularity contest.

College students can write to win cash weekly and can also compete for $1,420 in total grand prizes. Grand prize winners will be determined based on individual rank performance across the seven-week series.
