Founded in 2000, Teachers Without Borders (TWB) is a nonprofit, non-denominatio nal, international organization that provides professional training to teachers worldwide and helps them play a vital role in their communities. TWB focuses on building teacher leaders, and works primarily in developing countries to build self-reliance, health and capacity. TWB invites, gathers, distills, synthesizes and disseminates the best collective wisdom from teacher leaders in every culture to make all teachers more effective in contributing to the creation of a world that works for all.

Numbering more than 59 million worldwide, teachers are the largest professionally trained group of individuals in the world and they play a major role in the economic and social development of a nation. Teachers know who is sick, who is missing, who has been abducted into the sex trade or conscripted into a military gang, who has been orphaned by AIDS, who is achieving, and who is not. Despite this, teacher training is often uneven, protracted, or unsupported. In addition, teachers are rarely included in the process of writing education policy. In short, teachers are society's glue, and they deserve assistance. If the key to economic development is education, then all teachers should have access to resources, tools, the Internet and each other.

TWB is supported through individual donations, corporate funding and foundation grants. TWB is governed both by Local Trustees and an International Advisory Board, and operates with a small staff of country coordinators and experts.
