About Society of Professional Journalists
The Society of Professional Journalists is the nation's most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.
SPJ has been fostering and training citizen journalists through its innovative Citizen Journalism Academies, held in various cities throughout the country. See the link below for more on the Citizen Journalism Academies.
Over the spring and summer, Helium is going to run a series of writing contests about journalism. Some of these contests will be open only to Helium writers with at least 2 writing stars. The prize for the winners will be a Helium-paid membership to SPJ.

Welcome, SPJ members. You'll be awarded our Professional Journalism badge as well as our Marketplace Premier Writer badge. Any member of SPJ will enter Helium at a four-writing stars level (Helium members earn up to 5 writing stars through rating). Although your writing stars won't display until you earn them through rating, they will be calculated for your Upfront Payments. Please see How to Earn in our Help guide for more information.
