The one thing I was not willing to compromise on while planning our wedding was the photographer. The photos of our wedding were going to be the only lasting memories that we would have after the big day. I wanted to find the perfect person to do the job.
It's important to know what you're looking for when searching for your photographer.
As you are searching for a photographer you need to first talk to people who have used him/her at previous gatherings. You want a person who is going not going to be intrusive with you, your family, or your guests. It needs to be a person who is able to capture each important moment without being a distraction throughout the ceremony or while you're trying to have a sentimental moment with your new spouse. You want people to remember your service and things that were said, not the flash of a photographer that was in their line of vision.
Then next important detail to think about is how long the photographer is available to you. How flexible is he/she. Many photographers charge by the hour. Some of them will offer their services for the entire day for one fee. This tends to be much more convenient and even cheaper in the long run. When it comes to flexibility, see if your photographer is willing to travel to different sites to photograph you on your big day. Also, is he willing to take requests for different poses that you may have?
Some photographers are also including videography along with their package. This is a nice bonus opportunity. This means that you will be working through one person/company instead of having to manage two separate contacts. It also can help reduce the cost when combining the two services.
You obviously need to take time to watch a preview video and really look at the pictures that have been taken by the photographer. Do you like the quality of the photo? Do they capture a relaxed feel or are the people perceived as stiff and unnatural? Make sure you take time to view multiple photos from differing events. It's especially nice to look at photos that were taken during the same month/season as your wedding. You are then able to see the creativity that the season may bring out in the photographer's style.
When it comes to pricing, more often then not, you get what you pay for. Don't be too picky about the pricing. Make sure you're getting what you want. Pictures can capture the beauty of the day, and they are all you will have to help savor the memories of a lifetime.
