I Made No "Mistake" Joining Helium
I can't believe it has been three months since I first submitted an article to "Helium". I look back now and can only chuckle at how "green" I was to the world of writing. I was like a college freshman on the first day of class. I really didn't know what I was doing and just learned as I went along. In my journey so far, I have learned a barrage of valuable writing rules that I have "lost" over the years and have desperately tried to recollect some of what I retained from my college grammar classes. I hope that the following list of difficulties that I brought upon myself can help you avoid the same mishaps as you join the great writing community of "Helium".
First and foremost, read AND understand the rules; Writing Standards and User Guide before you even start exploring the site. It took me, through fault of my own, an extra month to get the concept and rules of "Helium" down pat. It would have saved me precious writing time if I had just taken an extra hour or so getting thoroughly acquainted with the site.
If you decide that "Helium" offers what you are looking for in a writing website, engage in great thought about creating a catchy, "About Me Page". This is where other members can get to know you and you have the opportunity to show off how many writing and rating stars you have earned.
Get a site mentor. These are stewards that represent "Helium" and are happy to help a writer to get started, improve their skills and give valuable advice. All of these helpful tools will not only improve the writer's quality of writing, but gain the higher ratings for articles. This may lead to constructive criticism of certain articles submitted, but it's much better for an article to be submitted written correctly than with several grammatical errors and/or misspellings.
Familiarize yourself with the star system. The best way for me to pass on valuable advice in this area; go to the specific page regarding ranking and rating articles and read/view the chart "Helium" has set up to explain their policy on rating other writer's articles and what it takes for you, the writer, to gain writing stars. It may take repeated visits, but eventually, you will become familiar with it.
Remember, we are all basically here for the same reason, to stretch our writing wings and improve on our skills. Do not be shy about finding the answer to a question that you may have. Type the subject that you are
