If you have received a diagnosis of cancer, there are number of steps you can take straight away to aid your own recovery. Outlined below is a three step plan for making changes to diet and lifestyle to improve your overall health and well-being.
Cancer is a complex and invasive illness which attacks from within. It is brought about by a degenerative process, a gradual decline in the healthy functioning of the body's processes and immune system, over a long period of time.
But if such a decline in overall health provides an environment in which this illness is able to flourish, then gradually restoring the body to improved functioning can form an important part of the cure.
One reason why cancer is hard to treat is because there is often no single obvious cause. A number of factors can enter into the equation. Smoking, over exposure to sun, obesity, poor diet and lack of exercise are all possible factors.
Conventional treatments tends to focus on treating the symptoms of the illness, not necessarily attempting to find or treat the underlying causes.
The health system offers chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy (all rather drastic measures which may fight the cancer but are not exactly great for boosting the body's overall health and immunity, and have many unpleasant side effects).
While receiving this form of treatment, there are a number of additional steps which can be taken to aid in the recovery process. These are mostly complementary to conventional cures but always advise your doctor of any diet or exercise plan, or if you are taking herbal remedies or vitamin supplements, in case these might affect your regular treatment.
Here are the three steps of the plan:
1. Diet eat more raw fresh vegetables such as carrot, celery and salads made of lettuce, tomato, cucumber etc, and drink vegetable juices such as tomato or carrot.
It's fine to eat some fruit but cut down on processed sugary foods such as cakes, cookies, ice cream and chocolate, as there is some evidence that cancer thrives on a high sugar intake.
Instead of cow's milk (a food for baby cows which contains growth hormones) use soya milk. Cut down on fat, junk foods and additives.
Take multi vitamins and suitable herbal remedies get advice from a health food store or herbalist first, and tell your doctor what you are taking.
2. Exercise
This doesn't have to be strenuous exercise such as sweating it out at the gym it could be something as simple
