The Telephone, it was one of the greatest scientific advancements in human history.

Since that faithful day in March of 1876 the telephone has become an integral part of life.

With the invention of the computer chip mobile phones soon became a popular communications device. Now Mobile phones offer much more functionality than that of a landline, Caller Id, voice mail, text messages, picture messages, video messages, and the ability to make and receive calls outside of your home on the go.

With the integration of our communication devices into society, many companies claim to have a better deal than the next.

When purchasing a mobile phone contract look for one that is short term but has good amenities such as unlimited nights and weekends a good messaging package and hopefully one that has unlimited talking.

Prepaid phones are getting better too but they have to catch up to play with the contract competition. Prepaid is good for those of us with a fixed income and have a very tight budget to stick to. Some companies offer a pretty good prepaid service package. When it comes to prepaid you definitely want to look for one with unlimited nights and weekends at the very least. This allows you to fully utilize the money you are putting into the phone package and you aren't being charged for every minute you are spending on the phone.

Landlines are known for their continued reliability through thick and thin. You still can't beat having a standard landline at home. The landline packages are getting cheaper with the Mobile phone and VOIP phones giving them a run for their money.

VOIP is a nice technology but has some drawbacks. You cannot use VOIP when the power is out as it runs on a modem. Another drawback is that when using the 911 services the operator cannot find you.

Cable digital phone service is another good service out there. You can save allot of money using this service when bought with a good service package from your local cable company. There are downfalls to this phone service is again the power goes down no phone service, the 911 service is also lacking. Cable digital phone has a few flaws but when purchased with the right digital premium package you can't beat the service for the money.

Mobile phones offer the most in functionality and mobility. Finding a good mobile phone provider will insure that you have a great piece of equipment that will provide you with a number of great amenities. When using a mobile phone that doesn't have unlimited talk, use the text messages to send short messages to get your point across instead of calling and using your anytime minutes. Think twice about calling your family on the mobile phone until after your free minutes kick in this way you can talk as long as you want without worrying about your bill being outrageous next month.

Before purchasing any phone plan do some research online and ask your local sales person any questions you might have then compare notes to see if that plan is what you wanted. Sometimes it is possible to haggle even with the big companies over the small things its not a guarantee but a possibility.
