Getting married? Got funding?
Although the bride's family bears most of the financial burden of a wedding, certain responsibilities do remain with the groom. These include:
RINGS
Before the wedding, the bridegroom will have paid for his fiancee's engagement ring and for both wedding bands.
FORMALWEAR
He will cover the cost of purchasing or renting his own wedding wear and possibly renting the formalwear for his groomsmen. (Often, groomsmen are expected to foot the bill for their own clothing rentals.)
MEMENTOES
It is customary for the groom to give his bride a special gift.
The groom will likely purchase memento gifts for the best man, groomsmen, ushers, and any other male members of the wedding party.
OFFICIAL ITEMS
He must obtain and pay for all needed health certificates and the marriage license.
Traditionally, the groom pays for the pastor, minister, or officiant. He also covers the cost of any musicians at the ceremony, such as an organist, pianist, violinist, or vocalist.
FLOWERS
Often, the groom will buy the bride's bouquet, although this may be purchased by her parents, along with the rest of the flowers for the event. He may obtain corsages and boutonnieres for his parents and the bride's parents. Also, he will likely buy a going-away corsage or flowers for his bride.
HONEYMOON
The bridegroom is responsible for the honeymoon and all related expenses. (Although many guests are likely to give cash as a wedding gift, it is considered bad form to use these funds for the honeymoon. The groom is supposed to have made all arrangements ahead of time.) Of course, he will have to supply his own apparel and luggage for the trip as well.
