WORD BASICS
When you open Word, you are faced with a "blank screen" with "Toolbars" at the top of your screen.
Some Word basics:
1) Right at the top of your window you will see displayed "DOCUMENT 1"; this is your first document you open, it's the name of your document until you get to save it under the name of your choice.
2) The "MENU BAR" is the bar just under the name of your document. The first menu listed on the left is the "FILE" menu.
3) Under the menu bar comes the "STANDARD" toolbar
4) Then fourth line down is the "FORMATTING" toolbar (this could sometimes be next to your "Standard" toolbar.
5) On your white screen, you will see a small blinking vertical line, this is the insertion point or your starting point where you are going to start typing.
CREATING A DOCUMENT
1) Automatically, when you start word, a new document opens. If you see a grey' screen, then you need to go the "File" menu, click on "New" and in the "New Document" task pane that opens, click "Blank Document".
SHORTCUT: Third down the line from the top of your window, on the Standard and Formatting toolbar, click on the white paper' icon (first one on the left) to start a new document.
2) You type using your keyboard. The blinking vertical point indicates your typing starting point. If you want to start further down the page, just keep pressing "ENTER" (also marked with an arrow on the right side of your keyboard fairly large key) key until the blinking point is where you want to begin.
3) As you type you will see the insertion point moving to the right.
4) You do not need to press enter at the end of every line as your line will automatically go onto the next line.
5) Separate paragraphs by pressing "ENTER" twice for a double line.
