How to prevent smoking, drinking and drug abuse in your child

DRUG ABUSE
INTRODUCTION
Drug abuse affects individual, family and community. In United States, more than 40 million people connected with the drug abuse. Drug abuse leads to social problems like violence, stress, child abuse, homelessness etc. It is also correct that most of people take drugs voluntarily at initial level but after over a period of time due to repeated drug taking, it affects on person's self control and makes compulsion to take drugs.

MEANING
The usage of drugs for any other purpose other than prescribed recommendation called - Drug Abuse. It is nothing but usage of drugs by means of excess, maladaptive or addictive for non medical purposes resulting social, psychological and physical problems. It is a repeated usage of drugs. It is also called illegal drug such as marijuana, heroin, inhalants Downers, Steroids, Hallucinogens, Uppers etc. Drug abuse also known as Substance abuse. Generally drug abuse starts when the problems rose in connection with employment, relationships, finance, education and health. In order to deal painful and unpleasant emotions, most of the people supposed to take drugs repeated.
DRUG ABUSE AND DRUG ADDICTION
Drug abuse may be caused by several factors such as Biological factors or psychological factors. Biological factors includes family history, biochemical factors whereas psychological factors include curiosity, novelty, social rebelliousness, early initiation, poor control, poor stress management, Childhood loss, escape reality, psychological distress etc
The Final step of drug abuse is drug addiction. The effects of drug abuse and addition depends upon the dose of drug taken. The drug abuse will invite short term effects and long term effects such as depressed respiration, nausea and vomiting, infectious diseases etc.
UNODC
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime - UNODC launched a campaign with a slogan "Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your community. No place for drugs." The slogan will be used for three years starting from 2007. The year 2007 meant for drug abuse and 2008 for drug cultivation & production. The campaign for illicit drug trafficking would be undertaken for the year of 2009. The idea of UNODC is drug control should be done by individual. The drug crop should be controlled by farmers. With respect to illicit trafficking and crime, the community may control so that aims of UNODC are fulfilled.
CONCLUSION
The drug abuse can be identified in children in such ways like change in the child's friends, withdrawn behavior, long unexplained periods away from home, lying, stealing, involvement with the law, problems with family relations, acting drunk or high, confused impossible to understand, decreased school performance etc.
Prevention of drug abuse is in the hands of parents. It is possible that every child is tempted to use drugs. Hence the parents should be more alert. First of all, the parents should not use the drugs and they should provide sufficient guidance to the children for not using the drugs. Besides the parents should spend more time with the children for good and bad times both so that children will be free from not using drugs.
