As a writer in Helium, I would always love Helium to be respected as good quality site where reliable information, knowledge, facts, news, views and creative writings can be read by visitors. I would definitely love to see the number of visitors to Helium site improving constantly and as a consequence of it, my earning potential, as a writer, increasing from the site.
Some of the aspects of the site are quite attractive to me and I definitely feel Helium is well placed in these segments. They are
- the design and lay out of Helium
- The menu structure and ease of navigation through the site
- The organization of the subject groups, titles and the constantly expanding array of topics
- Helium's excellent interaction with its writers through the community discussion boards
- Helium's promotional schemes to encourage authors to keep constantly contributing to the site
- Helium's effort in getting well paid freelance writing opportunities to its writers through the Market place route.
However, there are some aspects of Helium where I feel Helium needs improvement. As a writer in Helium, the following are my views on how Helium can improve further:
(1) Improve overall quality of articles:
Writing really good articles lies in the hands of the authors. Rating aids this process. While Rating at Helium helps to segregate and rank the quality of articles, there are not much of checks to weed out poor quality articles from Helium in the present arrangement. If there are four or five articles in a particular title and if all of them happen to be of mediocre quality, they only get ranked in the order of the least to maximum mediocrity through the rating system!
Information seekers who end up reading even the better ranked article in this title may feel exasperated at the contents. This is one problem.
On another side, due to some inherent limitations in the Rating engine, at times poorly written articles (with less useful content, with grammatical and spelling mistakes etc) somehow raise up and occupy top slots by edging out good quality articles. This is not an all pervading problem, but it is still a perceivable problem across several titles. These "black sheep" have every potential to mar the image of the site.
I wish Helium has two fold action plan (a) to rate up really good and quality articles and (b) to weed out (not simply by de-ranking) really poor quality articles.
I have made a couple of suggestions to
