How to dress appropriately for your age

We all know how difficult it is to decide what to wear, but moreover it really looks odd to wear something that is not appropriate for your age. Here are some suggestions how to look stylish in you 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and as well as 70's:

20's:
It's all about having fun and experimenting with the latest style. A couple of looks to try are baggy pleated trousers with a soft camisole and high heels or a full skirt with plenty of swing topped off with a short boxy jacket and leather boots. A vintage-look empire-line chiffon dress worn with a leather or denim jacket will work for day or evening.

30's:
Now you can pick and choose from trends without looking as if you've tried too hard - if it looks good on you, wear it. Great-fitting jeans will take you anywhere, while cropped trousers with knee-length boots or heels are fresher than full-length trousers. If you want an image that means business without looking dated, wear a new tulip-shaped skirt or wrap dress with spike heels. A statement bag or pair of shoes will add a youthful touch.

40's:
It's time to develop a look that's slick and streamlined. A tweed or brocade pencil skirt that stops just below the knee and has an element of stretch works for everyone - it keeps everything in place and gives you a sexy wiggle. It's best to keep your overall image simple but to add one or two status-symbol pieces, such as an embellished jacket, a fake fur wrap, a shirt with blousy sleeves or some bold jewellery.

50's:
The best way to look great is to ignore your age and enjoy life to the full. Give your waistline a helping hand with a fitted jacket or wrap blouse tied at the waist and to add a distinctive brooch, a string of pearls or petite diamond earrings to draw the eyes towards your face. Luxurious fabrics such as silk, satin and taffeta feel great and are forgiving, but don't hide behind black - introduce a flash of soft, warm colour instead.

60's:
A balancing act is what you need now. If the top you choose is voluminous, wear it with a pair of narrow, tailored trousers. Avoid all pleats, though, as they accentuate curvy hips. Conversely, if you choose a full skirt - flat over the hips to avoid adding bulk - or wide-leg trousers, it's best to keep your top half fitted. Simple but expensive-looking jewellery that quietly states 'class' is the best adornment.

70's:
You want to look smart and sophisticated, so your wardrobe mantra should be to create a closet of classics with enough flourishes to make a style of your own. Timeless buys, such as long coat or cape, fitted jackets and fine-knit cashmere jumpers and twinsets are your wardrobe staples. They'll never date and they always look expensive. A scarf tied at the neck or a striking shawl draped over your shoulders will give simple yet dramatic style.
