Good reasons for quitting your job

Work can be tiring, day in and day out. The repetition can be mind numbing. The co-workers can seem like the equivalent of nails on a chalk board. The commute can be beyond taxing. But are these good reasons to quit your job? In a short answer, no. However there are a few things that can justify looking for a new job.

In todays economy you may think there are no good reasons for quitting your job. This is simply not true as money is not necessarily everything. People require a satisfaction from their job and a challenge that keeps you going. I can break down five reason that would call for you quitting your job. Here is a list of these reasons in no particular order:

1) Raises just aren't coming in - There is always work around the corner. You should be actively searching the job market at all times just to keep an eye on potential opportunities. But working for raises that don't even cover inflation is basically taking a pay cut every year.

2) Your family never sees you - Don't be that person that wakes up at 60 wondering how their kids got so grown up. Be apart of your family's life. We work to have a good home life but what's the use if you never get to be at home?

3) The glass ceiling - There is no room for advancement and the top is crowded. You should always be in a position where advancement is an option. Or else you'll be doomed for a lifetime of near inflation raises.

4) Your boss is jerk and he's not going anywhere - If bosses get rotated out every couple of years you should adjust and wait if the job is that important to you. However, if there is no end in sight then by all means stop the misery sooner than later.

5) You dread getting up in the morning - If work just demoralizes you to the extent you begin to question your sanity before even stepping into the shower then its time to leave.

I had a boss once who sat me down and told me what my priorities should be. He said first - you should take care of yourself, second - you should take care of your family, and third - you should look at your job. I have remembered this for over 10 years now and this simple 1-2-3 is absolutely brilliant.
