Don Imus: Why he was fired

Don Imus was fired because he used a journalistic platform, to attack innocent victims. His bosses, board committees, and sponsors understood the impact of Imus' abuse of the microphone. Yes, we've all heard inappropriate language before, but Imus chose to victimize innocent teen-age young ladies nationally. When you are sitting down to eat dinner, you don't expect to be roasted over national radio or T.V.

If we as a nation condone journalists, who may be paid millions, to slander innocent people- what message is being sent to the morale majority? When teachers are frustrated in the classrooms, should they be allowed to denigrate students with racial or sexiest epitaphs? Of course not, even though these terms are being mainstreamed into society. Teachers are professionals and take a morality oath.

Women and civil rights activists did not go after Imus because they're prudes. No one wants a person terminated as a linguist of journalism professional. What society clamored for and received, was protection of integrity and fairness. If you're paid to be a professional in the public eye, then be that. What we witnessed was a gutter mouth racist, who got served.
