What exactly are we referring to when we say contraception? The many options that are available for couples before hand, in other words preventative contraceptives, or the emergency contraception options such as Plan B, which is quicker than an abortion, painless, more discrete, less expensive and has the same purpose.

While an abortion kills a life that has already began, sometimes against the parents' will, contraceptives simply help to avoid that situation. Most mature people understand that all the cancel-out options once pregnant are morally wrong, hence the common use of preventative contraceptives. It is simply not logical to compare the two, since they have very separate uses, such as one being a product and the other a service, and a somewhat different purpose.

However, comparing an abortion to the emergency contraceptives such as Plan B would be very advisable because it does not seem to occur to people that they have the same purpose. Why am I so certain that people are abusing the availability of Plan B? Walk into any drugstore and you can purchase Plan B over the counter, without a prescription and without an appointment.

At this point, it would be appropriate to state my belief that all children are God's children and that their conception time is universally embedded. If that is the case, as some of us who ignore science from time to time, tend to believe, then why try and prevent something so miraculous from happening?

Since I am against abortion and obviously as against Plan B, I believe that their circumstances should be redefined as opposed to banning these procedures. For example, the woman's age and financial situation should be taken into account. Any young woman below the age of eighteen who would rather not keep the child should be allowed to do so. We have many single mothers who drop out of school, move out, date abusive men etc. Sometimes, being raised in such an environment is almost as traumatizing as being an orphan. Another example where abortion would be recommended is if a woman whose age is on the other extreme would put her life in danger by keeping the baby. Although, more and more examples of elderly women giving birth are resurfacing on the news. For example, in Brazil, a mother is allowed to bring to world her daughter's children, hence her grandchildren, in instances where the daughter's health does not permit her to do so.

Finally, to answer the question as specifically as possible, people tolerate preventative contraceptives because they are harmless to either party (including the third one that would come into play following conception). People also tolerate emergency contraceptives because they have advantages compared to an abortion and because their consequences do not seem to be as serious. When a woman swallows a pill, she tends to move on with her life within seventy-two hours. When a woman has someone scrape something so bonding out of her, she tends to live with that for months or years, if not forever. Unfortunately, the fact is that many women, and their partners who are supportive of it, tolerate abortion. What is even worse is that they do not seem to learn from their mistakes, and they (mostly young immature and inexperienced women) let the same man do the same thing again, and again, and again.
