I have been building websites for the better part of a decade and the number question I always receive is how to get more traffic. There are a variety of ways to obtain more traffic, however chances are most of them will cost you money. In this article I want to cover some ways where you can increase your traffic and the only thing it will cost you is some time.
It doesn't matter what your website is about. You could be selling electronics to knitting sweaters, and by using this one technique you can increase your web traffic on a weekly to even daily basis.
This technique is more powerful than any pay per click advertising campaign that you will undertake and certainly better than any other advertising medium when you compare the cost. That is because this technique is 100% free. You do not pay a dime for it (although you could if you wanted to). The one thing it will cost you is your time.
So what are the qualifications of using this technique? Simply knowing your business. Sounds stupid simple right? But it really is. All you need to know is what your business is about, what you sell and so and this technique is sure to increase your web site's traffic.
So what is it? Its a simple technique called article marketing. Article marketing is the process by which you write articles about something that is related to your business and then submit that article to various article directories such as Ezine or ArticleDasboard. In the process of submitting that article you also submit what is called the author resource box. In that box will be a link that points back to your web site.
Lets say for instance you sell digital cameras. The possibilities of what you could write are endless. You could write a review on one of your products, you can write handy tips on how to take good pictures with your camera and so on. As you can see there are a number of directions you can take your articles in all of which are related to what you sell on your web site.
Now once you submit your article and that important resource box you have just created two ways to generate traffic from that one article. The first way is for the reader of that article to click the link in the resource box. That is called direct traffic. The second way and this makes this technique so powerful is these article directories allow their visitors to use your article on their websites so as long as all links from the resource box are in tact. meaning anybody that uses your article on their site will have an active link back to your site. This is called viral marketing.
Now all you do is repeat this process on a daily basis or at least weekly and watch your traffic grow. Not only are you generating more hits back to your site but as more links appear on the internet pointing back to your web site, you are increasing the ever so important Google Page Rank. We'll save that discussion for another time.
So there you have it! A technique that is easy to use and implement that is sure to drive your web site's traffic up there in no time. Now go and get started!
