Have you ever been driving down the road and suddenly not remember passing the grocery store or pulling in to your driveway and asking yourself" How did I get home so fast?" This is a form of hypnosis in one way or another we all do it on a daily basis.
While we still safely perform our daily tasks, like driving a part of our "mind" slips away to a relaxing state and when our mind returns to the present we are often left thinking what just happened.
Hypnosis will work on approximately 90 percent of people who try it. The remaining 10 percent are either to distract by things going on around them or absolutely without a doubt don't believe they can be hypnotized. While the biggest reason they can not be hypnotized is fear, fear of the unknown; what if I never wake up again, what if I wake up clucking like a chicken everything someone says my name, what if I start chain smoking instead of quitting these are all common thoughts for many people.
In all actually hypnosis is nothing more than a deeper state of mediation; many people mediate daily for relaxation, stress release and many personal reasons.
I for some reason am part of the ten percent, I went to hypo therapist to quit smoking, the entire time (45 minutes) I laid on this "comfy" air mattress following the instructions and repeating the affirmations basically going through the motions all the while I laid there thinking gee I wish she'd hurry up I want a cigarette! As soon as I paid her the $200 I jumped in my car and lit up!
After thinking about what could have possible gone wrong I came to the conclusion that all the while I was being prepared to quit smoking, I was thinking about smoking, my mind was fully focused on the smoking not the keyword "quitting."
I am not convinced that I can not be hypnotized; I just believe that I have an addictive and obsessive personality and I chose the wrong word to obsessive about.
Hypnosis can be and has been very beneficial for many people to relieve pain, quit smoking drinking, drugs, weight loss, and anxiety and panic attack relief, improve social skills, and academic skills.
If the mind believes then hypnosis can move mountains and change lives for the better. There is nothing to fear while being hypnotized you are fully aware of everything that is being said and what is going on around you. You are still in complete control of your mind and body.
All that is happening is an other person (hopefully licensed) is giving you suggestive thoughts and affirmations to help you with whatever brought you there in the first place. It's worth a try when traditional methods don't seem to help.
