Helium is a virtual Community of about 100,000 active, writing members.
Whether you are a complete novice to writing or you write professionally for a living, Helium welcomes you to share your personal knowledge and experiences in writings for others.
Helium is a Community of Writers
Helium's staffers monitor the Community, its needs and wants. Anyone who wants to participate in the active Community boards can, and thousands do. All writers can share information, ask for help, ask for a personal review of their work, suggest changes they'd like to see at Helium, communicate with other writers, and vent their frustrations.
Helium's staffers ask for constructive criticism of the site and ask members what they'd like to see on Helium. As an instant publication house that offers anyone a personal byline or pseudonym with his/her work, it is to the benefit of all to grow together.
As Helium's reputation grows and the integrity of the site becomes recognized, Helium rises higher and so do we.
A World Library of Writers
Writers from all over the world sign up and write about what they know, what they've experienced, and/or what they've researched. Helium is becoming a virtual world library of international knowledge. Helium's debates allow for an international exchange of ideas, points of view and cultural differences.
As writers earn stars of recognition for their writings and ratings, they develop a reputation within the community. They can offer services as site stewards to help grow the channel of knowledge they monitor. They can mentor new writers, one-on-one, who ask for help. They can critique articles from writers who ask for input on the community boards.
Ratings Make Helium Unique
Ratings are a huge part of the Helium experience. All writers are asked to rate their peers in side-by-side comparisons of articles within the same title. Thus, all writers get feedback about their works by knowing where their articles rank within their groups. All writers are encouraged to try to improve an article's rank by "leapfrogging" it with a better version. Perfecting one's craft is another theme at Helium.
Helium has upgraded its format to create the look of a classy, high quality magazine. Proper formatting is important, along with self-editing and the use of spell check before publishing.
Helium has learned that web readers like to read articles with word lengths ranging within about 400 to 1500 words "sight bites" of good
