Careers: Finding happiness on a slow career path

So things are not moving quite as rapidly as planned. You notice that you've been wearing hats a lot lately to keep from pulling out your hair. What is it? You've done everything 'right' and had envisioned yourself further along by now. So what's going wrong?

First thing you must ask yourself is, "What am I passionate about"? There is a good chance that you have landed in a career that you have little interest in. A lot of times people in careers with little nobility get feelings of wasted time. However, your time is never wasted if you learn from your experiences. So, what do you like to do? Ask yourself this question, and then jot down some ideas and different jobs that you could be doing.

Maybe you like your job, but just wish that you made more money. A major problem that people encounter is that they rely too heavily on one source of income, usually from their one and only job. A job can give you some security (know exactly when a check is coming), but it doesn't do much in terms of high tailing it to success. It is important to have as many sources of income as possible. Whether it is stocks, high yield savings accounts, or real estate, multiple sources of income can give you a successful, and entreprenurial satisfaction.

If you really can't stand your job look into starting a small business. The SBA (small business association) is a great tool and they can be found at www.sba.gov. Remember, an average employee makes between 20,000 to 70,000 per year. The average business owner makes from about 60,000 to 1,000,000 per year. Take a chance. You only live once.
