St. Patrick's Day

How to create your own St. Patrick Day greeting cards

I love to create my own holiday greeting cards. I think they seem more personal that way and the person that I am giving them to knows that I at least thought of them. One of my favorite card holidays is Saint Patrick's Day. At this point in time, it hasn't become an over rated holiday and simple gestures still mean a lot.

All you really need to make a fun card are things that you can probably find around the house.

- Construction paper (Preferably green but other colors are nice too.)
- Crayons/Markers/Colored Pencils
- Scissors
- Glue/Glitter/Stencils/Stickers/Other Decorative Items

Now all you have to do is make your card. Cut out pictures from magazines or other fun items to add to your card. You can also make the card in the shape of a shamrock. There is no rule that says the card has to be folded.

Four leaf clovers are a fun part of Saint Patrick's day but not always easy to come by. If you are lucky enough to have one, they are fun to use for rubbings. Lay them under a sheet of paper and color over them with chalk or crayon. Be gentle and don't destroy the clover though. This can also be done with normal clovers, flowers, or even leaves. The result is always very original!

There are many fun and original things you can add to your card. There are many places on the web that offer free graphics that are printable. You can also trace pictures from albums or books.

Pictures are also a fun way to personalize your card. You can use a picture of yourself or the two of you together. If you want to go one step farther, make it into a frame, using cardboard or hard poster board.

You can also buy cheap inexpensive frames at the dollar store. Buy a plain one and add a favorite photo. Now decorate the frame with glitter and glue. You can also personalize it with special messages or make a collage of several photos in a larger frame. You can even add captions. This is a card that will be proudly displayed.

Another fun idea is to research Saint Patrick's day before creating the card. Offer fun facts inside each card. You can also make Saint Patrick's day flash cards. Cut construction paper in medium sized squares and print facts on each card. You can glue them to a poster board or staple them together into a flipbook. Illustrate each page. This is a fun activity for children, also.

No matter how you make your card, be sure to give it with love. It is the thought that counts. Think of someone else and see how emotionally rewarding a simple gesture can be. Creativity and fun await you in the world of card making.
