Dumb moments have become all too common for me in the past decade, due largely to the fact that I'm now in my 40s and have also been under a considerable amount of stress. Since my little girl passed away just before Christmas, I've had even more than usual. I really can't blame it on the blonde tips I had put in my hair a few months ago either. I'm sure only natural blondes can blame dumb moments on the colour of their hair.

The following list includes a number of examples of dumb moments I've actually experienced myself recently - as well as some I've thought of from previous years - even when I was considerably younger.

You know you're having a dumb moment when.....

1) You are reading something out loud from the internet and you read the word "tangled" as "tan- gled". Your husband asks what that word was again and you repeat it - only to realize instantly what that word really is.

2) You make yourself a cuppa - and when you go to put it on the table you find one already there - which you made only a few moments earlier. This has happened several times in the past few months.

3) As you reverse out of the driveway you make the mental observation that the lawn needs vacuuming. The following day you wonder when your husband is going to get round to ironing the lawn.

4) When you make your husband's and son's lunches the night before they need it, you make yourself a sandwich as well. You put their lunches away in the fridge - but leave your own sandwich (with processed turkey in it) out all night.

5) You call your female dog by your son's name. There have been many such moments when you have had to go through every name in the family before getting the right one.

6) You can't remember what that thing is called that you have in a baby's room so that you can listen to them from other rooms.

7) You have to check with your six-year-old son what day of the week it is.

8) You are trying to find your keys which have a beeper keytag that responds when you whistle it. You still can't find your keys though. They seem to be in every direction you turn. You finally discover them in your pocket.

9) You have traveled for 20 minutes in the car (fortunately as the passenger) before you realize you don't have your glasses on. (Note that you have severe astigmatism). When you left home you obviously put on your fit-over sunglasses - but you took off your glasses that they were supposed to fit over and put them away in your handbag.
