Diet and why quick fixes don't work

The DIE in Diet

Discussing the latest diet fad has become a booming fad in its self these days. Everyone wants the power of knowing which one sees results; salmon or grapefruit? Dieting, in the general sense of the word, does not work for a number of reasons. Primary con: it's a quick fix. We all want to believe that there is one sole diet out there waiting to gallivant into our life like a dashing knight on his white steed who will take charge and solve all your problems. The unavoidable truth is; you'll be waiting a long time. No one and nothing is going to fix this one; but you. You have to own your weight loss. You motivate, you make the hard decisions, you sacrifice, you change, you challenge, YOU lose the weight.

WHY THEY DON'T WORK

1) Diets take the control and ownership out of YOUR weight loss.

Suddenly you're stuck in a routine that has you performing all sorts of odd activities; and you find your friends making curious statements like "Maggie, if you need someone to talk to, you know I'm here for you, yeah?" After explaining that you are not in fact the leader of some new age sci-fi cult that conspires to count points, eliminate this evil species called the carb' whilst leading the entire population into the mysterious zone,' you realize how totally removed from the human condition you have become. To eat normally seems down right sinful. Besides, you don't quite know how to go back, even if you tried. For this reason, ending the diet ends in disaster.

2) Diets are products.

The company wants your MONEY; they don't care how long it takes you or how hard you try. You are a customer. This means rapid results, which generally points to pure fluid loss. Companies cozen their customers into a contract through ensuring that you see results on the scale within the first fortnight. The reality is you have not actually lost any body fat. (Note the significant absence of salt a natural fluid retainer advised in common diets.)

3) Diets destroy your metabolism.

For reasons 1) and 2) you are inevitably doomed to imminent weight (re)gain, and then some. Months and years of calorie reduced meals has trained your metabolism to burn LESS, to slow down, else it will get hungry. This means trouble. Serious trouble. Do you eat more? (your body is not used to it, so you'll gain weight; quickly!) Or, do you eat less? (and deplete the metabolism even further.)

4) Diets lack balance.

It doesn't take a neurosurgeon, not even a nutritionist,
