The first thing that you should bear in mind when you want to shift to being a vegetarian is to do it slowly. For beginners, it is hard at first. You would be missing all those delicious and tasty food that you were used too and craving every food that you see served to other people who could eat everything that they wish. But as you do it regularly, you will find out that it is as easy as counting 123. Be strong enough to fight that urge to eat those unwanted food that you want to avoid. At first you can try eating alone without those variety of food served on the table for other members of the family to enjoy. Once you can handle situations you can eat with your family and you won't be craving other foods anymore other than the vegetables on your plate.
When I shifted from being an eat all you want to a vegetarian I did it in a very drastic manner that I almost didn't want to go on with it after a few days. Imagine eating pure vegetables with no dressing and anything in it but just plain vegetables fresh from the market and looking at the foods your other family members are eating. It was a torture but I persisted on going vegetarian as I wanted to cleanse myself from my previous diet. Having seen how my sister got well from an illness when she shifted to being a vegetarian made me decide that I too have to try.
Going vegetarian is now very easy as there are vegetarian foods that abound in supermarkets. As there are many people going vegan, a wide choices of food are out in the markets for people who cannot eat meat and fish products. There are countless varieties of vegetarian foods that are substitutes for meat and fish products and they taste the same. You will not be missing and craving those tastes anymore. And you could enjoy a variety of vegetarian foods without fear of eating those meat products.
Always look at the labels in the foods that you buy. Foods are labeled for the customer's benefit. There are canned and bottled foods fit for vegetarians and they come in different flavors that you would think you haven't shifted your diet.
For me I eat pure vegetables and find my health better and my feelings more comfortable. If you want to feel alive everyday, try going vegan. It would erase those sluggishness and queasiness that you sometimes feel early in the morning. But make sure to have really strong control of yourself and make your vegetarian diet consistent. If you go vegan, make it a daily habit. Avoid shifting from one diet to another as it will only make it harder for you to forget the food that you want to avoid. If you want vegetables only, go for it and leave all the meat products to those who can't go without them.
