Today, the 11th July, the world celebrates the World Population Day. It is quite fitting to bring to our mind the recent remark by American President Bush connected with the population of India. He pointed out the raising population of India and China is causing the food crisis in the world. The Indian population has already crossed 1130 millions. Though it has been curtailed considerably, the increasing percentage is still above the alarming level!
This year has been announced by the UN as the year of family planning.
Another important fact to be thought about the Indian population at this hour is that India has the largest number of the youngest population (under 25) of the whole world (1 out of 10 people in India are under 25).
AN ALARMING FACT
India occupies only around 2.3 % of world's geographical area but carries 16.6% of total world's population. The alarming fact is that she is expected to overtake China to become the world's most populated country within the next 25 years.
The global challenges like global warming, poverty, and total population growth have made the situation still worse!
Slowing population growth and addressing the over consumption and inequitable distribution of natural resources, can only be the key to long-term protection of the world on the whole.
REASONS FOR INDIAN LARGE POPULATION IN INDIA
Ignorance and illiteracy, selfish politics based on counting the vote bank, the cursed caste system, its crushing traditions and superstitions, etc. are some of the important reasons for the Indian population explosion.
IGNORANCE AND ILLITERACY
India has been fighting hard to educate her people. Even after 61 years of her independent governing, she is unable to achieve cent percent literacy. Children scavenging in dustbins in search of food can be still seen in many urban areas. In spite of the law of compulsory education for children under the age fourteen, many children are roaming about in streets without education!
SELFISH POLITICS
Ignorance is the basis of illiteracy. This again leads to the election of unworthy leaders to govern the country. It is quite evident that if people are literate and aware enough, these selfish leaders bargaining for power cannot get votes in election and swindle the public. Ignorance and illiteracy make the people blind, following their old traditions, calculating neither the economy of their family nor the condition of their country.
Illiteracy and ignorance make the people unaware
