Chapter One - Buttons
They seemed to know exactly which buttons to press to get me going. It had been an absolute bitch of a day and my life felt lower than a naked limbo dance under a blazing rod of fire. The surprise' board meeting that little upstart Michaels supposedly' forgot all about updating my Portable Thought Taker with, (Pe.T.T.) really had me squirming for a reprise. Now I had a deadline I couldn't possibly meet without miraculously growing another brain. I reached over the smoked glass coffee table I had proudly purchased yesterday (a much better day) for the fine warmed cognac, narrowly avoiding trapping any leaves of the delicate plant my dear mother entrusted me with while her and Dad went on that Caribbean cruise I bought them. My life wouldn't be worth living if I returned the plant with so much as a leaf missing, and believe you and me my mother would notice! I allowed a sip of the warm liquid to pass my lips, filling my chest with a comforting glow that only alcohol could bring. Only thing was instead of the other brain I needed, I was only succeeding in destroying the cells of the only brain I had.
My official title in my capacity at "Mind Over Matter" (the company that employed me) would be Commercial Activity Research Director or as the non-suits' would call us, a CARD. Within the organisation, there are three levels of CARDs. Jacks sit at the bottom rung, getting involved in the more overt of the company's operations, liaising with the Press and generally feeding as much disinformation about the company as humanly possible. Kings and Queens polish their thrones above the Jacks acting as the figurehead leaders of the organisation protecting the Psynod' (or as they are more commonly know in other companies as the Board.) from potentially sensitive' or more importantly legal issues that could damage the company's share performance. Then there are Aces. My level. What we do is closer to industrial espionage in the real world, except we tend to focus on the world of Cyberspace. Our employ is on a disembowelment basis so everything we do is extremely hush-hush.
"Mind Over Matter" began trading in 2013 after the first A.I. (artificial intelligence) disaster thirty-three years ago when I was but an inquisitive three-year-old child. It uncovered the truth about the A.I. program that the Government were suppressing for years and won mammoth Public acclaim, support and not to mention private funding
