The following are some recommendations for restaurants north of Boston, not directly within the city. All of the restaurants listed are easily accessible from Routes 95/128 or Route 114 East of of 95/128. Most are lesser known, independently owned restaurants you may not have heard of before. I'm giving lots of details on each one, so there aren't many listed. But hopefully the descriptions will make you comfortable enough to try out the places for a change of scene.

This is by far one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to. I can guarantee this, because I've been to Indian restaurants in Manchester, England, which has a very high Indian population and is known for its curries which have taken the UK by storm! Unless you've tried Indian food, no description does it justice. Eating this cuisine is an experience in itself. The sweet and spicy aromas, the saffron-infused rice, and the unusual combination of spices, herbs and flavors make you feel like, for a short time, you're experiencing another culture. The walls in this restaurant are a vivid yellow, which normally stimulates conversation. But you will be so immersed in the food, that is likely to be the main topic of discussion throughout the meal! The staff is mostly Indian men, who are very courteous and professional. They are very helpful if you have questions, special requests, or can't figure out how to pronounce the name of a dish. There isn't much guesswork involved in ordering though: all of the dishes are summarized with the main ingredients and seasonings listed under the name.
If you work in the area, they do have a great lunch buffet. This is good for trying out different dishes, but I don't recommend that as your first visit. You may find yourself overwhelmed by the different tastes to the point where you can't really appreciate any particular one. Think of the food as perfume: If you try all the different ones at the same time, you won't know which one you like the best. Try one at a time and try a different dish each time you go.
Border Cafe
Route 1 South
Saugus, MA
This tex-mex / Cajun restaurant is a fun place to go, because there's a dimly lit bar and lots of great decorations. Some of these include red strings of jalapeno-shaped lights that resemble Christmas tree lights, murals advertising strange unknown brands of Mexican foods, structures made out of Corona cases.....you
