Dress to impress: Proper interviewing attire for women

The way a woman dresses for an interview is very important. It is the interviewer's first impression of her. An interview is not the time to show off your womanly assets. It is the time to be conservative and professional.

First, you need to go and find a suit, whether it is a pants suit or a suit with a skirt. Find something conservative, preferably pinstriped. The suit can be navy blue, black, tan or gray. I would recommend staying away from flashy colors, such as yellow and red. Also, you need a blouse that compliments the suit. The suit does not need to be expensive; however, it should be of decent quality and should fit well. Also, finding a back up outfit is a good idea, in case the first outfit doesn't fit right that day, etcetera. Shoes are also important. A pair of well fitting flat shoes or shoes with a small heel should be sufficient. Shoes should be closed toed and should match the color of your outfit.

Before the interview, make sure your hair is presentable and styled conservatively. Also, if you wear make-up, apply make-up conservatively. Possibly some eye shadow and mascara and a soft colored lipstick. You are not going to a rock concert! Your fingernails should be trimmed and/or shaped. Your nails do not have to be polished, but if you want to pamper yourself before your interview by getting a manicure, that works, too! Your suit and blouse should be pressed and as wrinkle free as possible.

If you have chosen a suit with a skirt, make sure that you have pantyhose that have no runs in them. Your pantyhose can be nude or can match the color of your suit.

Accessorizing your attire is important, too. Choose traditional jewelry pieces. Perhaps a pair of small earrings and a plain necklace with a small pendant. A lapel pin can add a little pizzazz to your outfit. It could be a pin for an organization that you belong to or your first initial.

Brush your teeth before the interview and make sure you do not have any remnants from any meals left in your teeth. There is nothing worse than seeing someone smile and seeing their latest meal stuck in their teeth.

Dressing well for an interview is crucial for a good first impression. The way you dress can make or break you on the interview. If you want to increase your chances of getting the job you want, insure you dress the best that you possibly can for your interview.
