To take responsibility for your own behavior is often the most difficult considering it is so much easier to point the finger and say it is someone else, as I am sure you have heard before the problem with that approach is there are still four fingers pointed back at you ... so admitted or not, majority rules.
Though it is a difficult process, it is better not to point the finger but instead look at the situation, realize you made a mistake, take responsibility for your decision. In an ideal world right? Well certainly but there must be other solutions to reach? Yes there are and my interpretation will be explained here.
First do yourself a favor let the past lie, though your life may of been rough and dysfunctional or just plain crazy, realize that you must make the decision to change today, now at this moment or you may repeat that infamous cycle and cause undue stress on yourself.
Second Know that the choice was made and for each choice made there is a logical conclusion, cause in effect seems to be a good way to explain that. You made such and such decision considering the possible repercussions, as such you know already where that choice will take you and still you made that choice let me repeat YOU made that choice.
Third It is far to easy to look for a scapegoat, someone besides yourself that must of caused this to occur, although considering the second tip. The choice was made by you, holds all the more true. Besides it is easier to be honest then to try to lie to others and yourself about the consequence of your specific choice makes little or no sense. The world today is already stressful why add more to it? Just take responsibility, and once you do it is much easier to find the solution, then to have that internal battle.
Finally though it is challenging once you look in the mirror, recall that you make the decisions, you are in control of your life, no one else is. In all things it is the same really, habits, the clothes you wear, drinking, smoking, all of these were the result of a choice you made and for some multiple choices. Deciding to just let it control you, then you controlling yourself. Certainly you can use the scapegoat method and say well I drink because my father did, or I smoke because my mother did, or it was all because of my friends at the time. All of which are just excuses to the fact, regardless the window of time, you still had the CHOICE, to go with the flow or do what you know was for the best. Sure you could say, well this is because my past was such and such. Why live in the past? It would seem to me the present and the future are a bit more important then the past. And it is your life not your fathers, or your mothers, so make your own decision and expedite the coming to a solution.
It can be done, taking responsibility, surely a simple process so get started today. Live your life, exist in the present and the future, let the past remain where it has always been. Today, at this moment, come to that decision to take responsibility, trim off a bit of that unnecessary stress. Once you do you will certainly feel better about you and your life.
