Finding out what your customer wants is the best way to create a healthy, stable business. For your business to be earning profits, you have to give your customers what they want. Luckily, there are many tools you can use to help you accomplish this:
Conduct A Survey: One of the easiest ways to find out what your customers want is to conduct a survey. If you have a business where you see your customers on a regular basis, slipping a feedback form into their bag along with their purchases or asking your customers to fill out a survey upon a job's completion is very easy. If you have an online business, consider creating a form on your website and sending an email to your mailing list with a link to the survey.
Another way to research your market is through the search engine Google. If you are thinking about offering a new product, type in a phrase similar to what you would use to describe your product. Take a look at the results that come up. If you don't see any results, be cautious. In this day and age, it is unlikely that you have thought of something that has never been thought of before. If there are no results, it may be because there is no market for this product. A little bit of competition is a sign of a healthy and viable marketplace.
A third idea is to create a landing page, which is basically a one page website. Describe the product or service you would like to offer and create a sign up box for more info. Once your page is complete, do a little marketing and see if anyone signs up for more info. If you receive a good response, you'll know it is wise to continue investing your time and money with this project. Once your product is ready to be sold, send a message to the people who signed up for your mailing list. You could have some profits the day your new product is released!
