THE PLACE TO START
I have found the best way to enlarge a small room is to bring light into a small space. Instead of spending money to recolor, (any darker color schemes only make it appear even smaller,)utilize mirrors. Look at the placement of your main source of light. Most likely a window. Stand back and see what you like the best, out side the specific window, from every angle. Any life: a tree, a branch, a garden, a farm scape, or even only someone else's brick wall, can bring the effect of the outdoor in, which the light of the mirror reflects. If there isn't much to see, make it happen. Use the mirror effect, and place life in its reflection. You might have window sill, a small balcony: plants like ferns, palms, as light foliage one can see through, are best. Even indoors, if carefully selected, they extend your eye space via the mirror. Something which takes you beyond the boundary of your smaller space.
Use mirror tiles. They are easy to add to, fun to place without having to choose paint colors for a whole room, and no mess to work with. If one brakes, they can be replaced easily. In a small room with even one small window, see if a corner gave the best view. If so, that's the place to start. You will see what you would like to place where. When you close the curtains at night even they can reflect what you want them to. Don't make the small room busy, overcrowded with too many patterns, designs, or clutter. You want this little room to reflect everything you enjoy. The rest of what you do with it will reflect you. From this starting point, look into your reflected space, and work your way all round your room to how you would like to see it from every angle, and build on that. You can watch it come together how you want. Fill in the chosen starter corner, to the width of the window on either side from the specific corner, with tile mirrors. Use the hight of the window as a guide. Learn you can play with that effect whether day light or night, and have ability to share that illusion of extra space with yourself and your furnishings. Use the mirrored effect as the high light of this room and it's space. A talking piece: which could be a two to three seater glass and cane coffee and snack table nook, reflecting the outside, and a flower on the table. The lighter the furniture, the illusion only grows in space. At night, candle lights capture different reflections, and doubles your light! However you reclaim your small rooms, enjoy your new found
